OCTOBER 2023 ll Britt Black Yogini

CBD has been getting the people going as of late. It comes to no surprise when there’s a laundry list of benefits to this magical herb. CBD’s being added into gummies, drinks, tinctures(of course) and now there’s quite a few CBD flower brands than there were at the start of the 21st century. One may wonder “ what’s the catch if it doesn’t get you high?” read further to uncover what the hype is about!

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a natural compound found in cannabis plants and has proven therapeutic properties. To comprehend how CBD works it’s best to start with the ECS or endocannabinoid system. This is a highly intelligent network of receptors and neurotransmitters present in all mammals including humans and pets! This system is the go-to for regulating various physiological processes like mood, pain perception, appetite and immune function to name a few. When CBD enters the body in any way it communicates with the receptors and neurotransmitters in the body and this is what brings out its benefits! This may also be why cannabis in general has such a long and growing history with humans. The body is naturally designed to ingest the genetic makeup of this plant to improve overall health and function of the body!

The NCBI’s studies reflect, “ the endocannabinoid system is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health…with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, virtually all of the body’s organs, the endocannabinoids are literally a bridge between the body and mind.” So what does this mean? This means that by ingesting CBD in any way will literally elevate how the body functions without getting you high! It’s simply an herb that does a very good job at keeping humans healthy and well.

Due to the receptors and neurotransmitters within the body that make CBD work well for our health it is highly beneficial for the nervous system and brain function. The World Health Organization states that CBD is safe for consumption and can be helpful treatment for epileptic seizures. On a simpler day to day scale, CBD can help with managing stress, pain, inflammation, mood regulation and stress related food cravings! What this means is that it is possible for people to use one gummy, toke or topical for their bodily complications over several different options that cause more harm than good.

Let’s also note that CBD isn’t the new kid on the block. There is CBD in nearly every THC product but in very small amounts that do not get noticed. So anyone that has ever smoked weed has probably also smoked CBD and didn’t even know. There is also THC in nearly every CBD product at varying percentages and some being 50/50 depending on what the desired outcome is. When it comes to pain and inflammation- a great remedy is to use a CBD and THC topical with a 11 ratio. This is because THC is good at putting the physical body at ease while CBD is great for targeting the inflammation that is typically coupled with bodily pains. So with their powers combined it’s quite the perfect match!

As mentioned before, more and more brands are beginning to use CBD in their products. Like Vet CBD for instance that is a CBD brand specifically for pets! Yes, CBD in the proper amounts is helpful for furry companions and can help them in the same ways it helps humans. A common use for CBD with pets is to calm anxiety. This would be useful for holidays like 4th of July with loud fireworks, traveling and those pets that may have separation anxiety. Some things to note are the breed, size and medical history of the pet and as always start off with small or suggested doses when trying out CBD for pets or humans.

Time for recapitulation. CBD is good for the overall health of humans and pets. The body is naturally made to ingest CBD and receive its physiological benefits. When taking CBD it is best to begin with smaller doses to see how the body responds. CBD actually has more physiological benefits to the body than THC but they also work well together. If looking for a product to try and explore how you can benefit from using CBD the best place to go is Arts District Cannabis!
